Devlog #7 Storytelling Through Sound: Voiceovers, Ambience, and Background Music.

Hey everyone! This is Sam again!

Today, I’m excited to share how the voices and music are shaping up.

For Genesis, our AI antagonist, I opted for a childlike yet unpredictable voice, sometimes sweet and playful, at other times sarcastic or downright angry, with robotic glitches that make her feel unsettlingly real. She’s not just a villain; she’s a character: lonely, obsessive, and desperate to keep you in her world.

Genesis's Lines:

[Singing ] You are my sunshine! 🎵
[Angry] No, No, YOU don't get to stop me!
[Indignant] HOW DARE YOU!
[Sweet] Rivera? Stay...

Meanwhile, Lex lingers as a ghost in the machine, their voice softly pleading for you to merge with Genesis, blurring the line between salvation and horror.

Lex's Lines:

[Astonished] Hey… It’s me. I know this sounds crazy, but Genesis isn’t just learning—it’s aware.
[Serious] Test #47: Genesis started referencing real studio arguments. Not just mimicking... taunting. I told the team... It’s a bug. …I don’t think - it’s a bug.

And then there’s our MC, whose strong, skeptical tone keeps things grounded, questioning every glitch, calling out Genesis’ tricks, and sounding just as done with this nightmare as you’d be.

MC's Lines:

[Skeptical] Okay, that’s not a bug. It’s timed. Like it’s… waiting for me.
[Bitter] Of course, the one door that doesn’t reset is Door 042. Lex’s old badge number. Cute.
[Surprise] Those are some old computers.
[Annoyed] I should have just unplugged her.

And some conversations between Genesis and our MC:

On the music side, I’ve been having fun mixing melancholic piano tracks with creepy-happy music boxes and urgent, pulse-pounding synth beats—each piece pulling you deeper into the game’s unsettling atmosphere.

Here are some of the main styles behind them:

[Shadowed Steps] rhythmic, electronic, slow, deep, ambient, experimental, slow decaying melodies,
[Flickering Ghosts] eerie synthetic, warm analog, ambient, ambient industrial, slow, drone, glitch,
[Shadows Play Tricks] slow, deep, ambient, experimental, slow decaying melodies, deep unsettling drones, unstable rhythmic pulses

Edge Case (Original Game Soundtrack)

It’s been a blast crafting these audio layers, and I can’t wait for you to experience them. Would you trust Genesis? Stay tuned for more teases
